Eli Slavkin

Eli Slavkin is an internationally influenced composer, educator and filmmaker with a deep love for music and cultures from around the world.

Eli's core mission as a multilingual global-minded artist is to celebrate and share diverse cultures by producing and scoring a series of documentaries, taking cultures unfamiliar to most people and bringing them to light. His bravery and independence to travel in countries by himself where he doesn’t speak the language, combined with his keen ability to deeply empathize with the people in these very places makes his approach to composition and storytelling truly unique and incredibly personal. Having lived in LA and Boston (USA), Valéncia, Madrid, and Castellón de la Plana (Spain), Jerusalem (Israel) and having traveled extensively through more than 20 countries on 4 continents, he has realized the importance of sharing seemingly disparate perspectives and cultures in order to make the world more interconnected and empathetic.

As a passionate storyteller, Eli also loves to share his own experiences in ways that are helpful to others. He is a contributing writer for dreamsabroad.org, where he details many of his life experiences for the benefit of a diverse global community.

 

Early Years:

Before his career as a student at Berklee College of Music, Eli was able to dedicate himself more fully to music by attending an online high school for his senior year. He took private lessons at the University of Southern California’s prestigious Thornton School of Music from the chair of the Studio/ Jazz Guitar department, Frank Potenza, and was selected as the guitarist for the L.A. Jazz Society's 19th Bill Green Mentorship Program.

 

During his last year of high school, Eli also was a volunteer teacher and mentor for students in Harmony Project, the largest nonprofit organization solely dedicated to providing free music education to low-income youth in Los Angeles. He taught group guitar classes to kids in one of the Harmony Project’s mariachi bands, and played in the rhythm section for the advanced jazz ensemble class taught at Los Angeles City College. During the year Eli lived in LA after graduating from Berklee, he re-joined the organization as a Programs Administrator as well as a Teaching Artist, teaching music technology and guitar. He continued his passion for teaching as a Core Music Tutor at Berklee, where he was certified by the College Reading and Learning Association as a Master Certified Tutor. He has also worked as a supervisor for the Core Music Tutoring department at Berklee's campus in Boston, as well as a Student Ambassador, Orientation Leader, and Resident Activities Coordinator.
